Bachelor of Science in Information and Communication Technology

Full Time: 4 years and 127 credit-hours

The growth and development of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has led to their wide dissemination and application, thus increasing their economic, industrial and social impact. The Bachelor of Science in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) curriculum provides students with a broad perspective on the nature of technology, how to use and apply a variety of technologies, and to become experts in the development and application of these technologies.

 

Bachelor of Science in Technology Management

Full Time - 2 years with Associate Degree qualification or approximately 60 credit-hours

The Bachelor of Science in Technology Management is a programme of study designed to provide students with prior foundation skills and knowledge in various technical areas (e.g., computer science, various disciples of engineering, etc. ) to acquire the necessary business skills and academic knowledge for entry-level management positions in a technical environment. The technology management concentration is intended for students with a diploma or associate degree in technology, since concentration required courses and electives are normally credits
from a student's field of technology training earned prior to admittance into the degree program.

 

Associate Degree in Computer Systems Technology [F- Full time and P - Part time programmes]

(Full time - 60 credits) Duration: 2 years /4 semesters. Class hours 9:30AM to 4:00PM

(Part time - 48 credits) Duration: 1.5 years / 3 semesters. Class hours 5:30PM to 8:00PM. For Graduates of the VTI Diploma for Computer Technicians already having 12 credits.

This programme is accredited by the University Council of Jamaica and is offered on a full-time basis to new applicants and on a part-time basis for graduates of the VTI's Diploma for Computer Technicians programme.

The full-time programme is over a duration of two years. Classes are held in the days 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The part-time programme is over a period of one and a half years or three semesters, 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The ACS is geared towards students who wish to gain knowledge of computer systems and information technology. It provides a wider knowledge base of the overall Computer system, hardware and software technologies along with networks and systems programming.

In addition to the hard, technical skills, the ACS programme includes communication and business modules designed at developing those necessary success factors - the soft skills. The individual will be better prepared and equipped to be effective in the workplace and prepared with the skills necessary for pursuing further academic studies. It provides the skill for a Computer Technician, Network and System Administration or Programmer position.

 

Diploma in Computer Systems Technology[DCSF]

Full time - 30 credits) Duration: 1 year/ 2 semesters. Class hours 9:30AM to 4:00PM

Diploma in Computer Systems Technology (Part-time - 30 credits) Duration: programme effective January 2004. Class hours 5:30PM to 8:00PM

This programme is offered on a full-time and a part-time basis.

This programme is geared towards students who wish to gain knowledge of computer hardware systems and networks with some basic programming principles. It provides a wider knowledge base of the overall computer system both hardware and software. It also provides the basic skill for a Computer Network/Technician, System Administrator or programmer, resulting in a sound technical foundation to better facilitate more advanced levels of studies.

 

Certificate for Computer Technicians (Advanced) [CCTP]

(Part time - 8 credits) Duration: 36 weeks DT01 - DT04. Class hours 5:30PM to 8:00PM

This programme is geared towards students who wish to gain knowledge of computer repairs and upgrading. It focuses on the hardware side of the computer system and will provide the basic skill for a computer Technician position.

Certificate In Computer Hardware Systems (Post Advanced) [ CHSP]

(Part-time - credits) Duration: 30 weeks. Class hours 5:30PM to 8:00PM . DT05,DT06, AP01, AP02.

This programme is geared towards students who have completed the CCTP programme and who wish to gain knowledge of basic networking. It focuses on Advanced Hardware System leading towards the external A-plus certification. It will provide the basic skill for a Computer Technician and System Administration position. Applicants must have as prerequisite, formal education on computer hardware systems.

 

Certificate in Network Systems (Advanced) [CNSP]

(Part-time - 8 credits) Duration: 24 weeks. Class hours 5:30PM to 8:00PM. DT05, NETWORK SWITCHING, WINDOWS 2000.

This programme is geared towards students who have completed the CCTP programme and who wish to gain knowledge of basic and advanced networking. It focuses on networking principles and will provide the basic skill for a Computer Technician and Network specialist and System Administration position. Applicants must have as prerequisite, formal education on computer hardware systems.

The CISCO Networking Academy Programme:

The CCNA curriculum features the following modules:
• CCNA 1—Networking Basics
• CCNA 2—Routers and Routing Basics
• CCNA 3—Switching Basics and Intermediate Routing
• CCNA 4—WAN Technologies

The Cisco® Networking Academy® Program teaches valuable networking and IT skills to students and workers worldwide who are interested in expanding their IT knowledge or starting a career in the technology industry.

The Networking Academy program also fosters local economic growth by providing innovative IT curricula, as well as instructor development and support, to help produce a skilled workforce.
